🍭 La King’s Confectionery
La King’s Confectionery is Galveston’s legendary old-fashioned candy shop and soda fountain, located in the heart of The Strand Historic District. Founded in 1976 by Jack King, who revived his father Jimmy King’s 1920s candy-making traditions, La King’s offers more than 50 handmade confections crafted using antique equipment and century-old recipes. Visitors can watch salt water taffy being pulled, sip a malt at the working 1920s soda fountain, or enjoy scoops of “Purity” ice cream—Texas’s first ice cream brand, founded in 1889 on Galveston Island.
